The Power of Communication

M
...TACKLE MY
HARDEST TASK IN
THE MORNING
I learned this technique from
one of our managers, who
explained that she "eats a frog"
every morning by getting her
biggest tasks out of the way as
soon as she gets to the office.
It made so much sense to me
that I started doing it too. My
most time-consuming task
is doing quality assurance
audits. My instinct was always
to put them off, but now I do
them first thing in the morning.
This gives me plenty of time
to complete them. If I push
them to the end of the day,
I could run out of time and
have to deal with them again
the next day. Procrastination
is the biggest detriment to
productivity. Crossing that off
my list in the morning creates
a lot of momentum for my day
and puts me in a better mood.
The running joke in the office
is that we all eat frogs for
breakfast!

ary Shores, president of Midstate
Collection Solutions Inc.,
recently explained her top tips for
communicating with employees, clients and
colleagues during challenging times in an
interview with Forbes.
"To create lasting connections and get your
clients and team members to be open to your
solutions, it's important to talk with them
rather than at them. The phrase, 'You should
have' sounds like the start of a lecture, and
when people feel like they're being lectured
or judged, they can become closed off to the
rest of the conversation," Shores told Forbes
contributor Stephanie Burns.
Shores also shared her expertise on the
subject as it applies to collections with ACA
International members in a recent Hot Topic
webinar, "Closing the Gap: Higher Collections
Through Stronger Connections.
In this webinar, Shores reviewed the skills
collection agencies need to succeed in a
post-coronavirus world, with an emphasis on
communication. Every word we speak has the
power to create either conflict or connection.
Shores taught attendees how to build
connections and reduce conflicts that create
barriers to payment-one word at a time.
The webinar is available on ACA
International's archive of Hot Topic recordings
