More Than Meets the Eye
How your ACA team is working behind the scenes to help you succeed.
n my two years as CEO of ACA International, I've seen some amazing things. I've seen
member volunteers give their time and treasure for the betterment of an entire industry.
This includes officers, board members, committee chairs and members, Certified
Instructors, speakers at face-to-face meetings/webinars/podcasts, members being interviewed
by the media, and fundraising for ACPAC and ACA's Education Foundation, just to name a
few. We are, and always will be, a member-run organization and members' fingerprints are on
everything we do.
This month, however, I'd like to write about another amazing group of people: your ACA staff.
Working with such a passionate and dedicated group of peers is so much fun. No one is above the
cause and I'm so proud of how the mantra "Helping Members Succeed" has gone from a catchy
phrase to a full-fledged culture of knowing we have but one purpose. If you don't succeed, we
don't have jobs-it's as simple as that.
So, what have we done for you lately? Well, going "around the horn," I'll make a few
observations. A group you rarely hear from, our operations department, has more impact on
members than meets the eye. Making sure resources are adequate to serve the membership isn't
easy, starting with dues renewals and managing ACA's financial reserves, keeping spotless records
and managing our office facilities. In other words, they ensure ACA maintains a strong foundation.
On to communications-something we take for granted daily. There are so many modes of
communication today, and readers and listeners have so many options. I'm proud that just over
a year into what we initially thought of as an experiment, our podcast, ACA Cast, has had over
10,000 listens and podcasting has now become part of our culture. And our entire team has
recently come together to create the Daily Huddle, a daily video conference designed to bring
members up-to-the-minute information on state and federal issues relating to the COVID-19
crisis. I simply cannot say enough about how quickly and skillfully our staff pivoted to this most
On the education front, we recently released our Core Curriculum on demand, and soon all
credentialing courses will be available on demand. Streaming these courses allows you to learn
24/7/365. Also, you can now proudly display your credentials using digital badges.
This is cool stuff, and there is more to come. But if I spilled the beans here, this article would
have to self-destruct. Trust me-we have things in store that will disrupt everything.
Our member experience team, which includes education services and member services, has
also been expanding the management of state and regional units, which continues to be an
exciting way to further serve members. Finally, our advocacy at the federal and state levels is
helping to protect the accounts receivable management industry in so many ways that it would
take an entirely separate article to even scratch the surface.
The bottom line is this: we love serving you, your companies and this industry. If there is
anything we can do for you that we haven't thought of, feel free to reach out and let me know at
