ACANEWS

Indeed, this sort of thought process
was envisioned by ACA's newly created
Technology and Innovation Committee,
which helped organize the #ForwardTECH
track. Committee chair John Bedard, owner
of the Bedard Group, skillfully moderated
the #ForwardTECH discussions.
Session speakers Jim Warner, chief
technology and security officer for
State Collection Service Inc., and Dan
Medina, director of operations for Gulf
Coast Collection Bureau Inc., engaged
in a high-level conversation about what
actually happens in information technology
departments, including their thoughts on
evolving corporate IT needs in the coming
year-for example, the increased need for
data security.
Medina shared a few interesting tidbits on
data snafus that can lead to major problems,
while Warner discussed project planning and
corporate strategy. He suggested companies
should consider developing-and sharing

with employees-thoughtful corporate
strategy plans to ensure that everyone has a
clear understanding of the employer's goals.
Meanwhile, Bedard also led a lively
discussion with attendees, who shared their
real-world experiences marrying technology
and compliance in an environment where
regulatory policies are murky. Attendees
discussed email (and outsourcing email),
text messaging, PayPal and other systems.

FINDING THE RIGHT VENDOR
If the thought of transitioning from one
database vendor to another keeps you up
at night, don't worry, you're not alone.
The session "Conversion Doesn't Have to
be a Scary Word: From One Platform or
Vendor to Another," featured two industry
professionals who had worked together on
a conversion-one was the vendor and the
other the client.
Panelists Dharmaraja and Angela Trunk,
manager of PDQ Services Inc., spoke

candidly about building the right team to
implement a new platform while ensuring
that staff is onboard with the conversion.
Trunk shared some interesting tidbits
about her experience leading a conversion,
noting she started the process by visiting
ACA's online discussion board The Hub
to find out if other members could share
their thoughts and experiences. She also
attended ACA events and took advantage
of networking opportunities for insights
from others.
Many other educational and informationpacked sessions took place throughout the
three-day event, which attracted crowds
of accounts receivable management
industry professionals. ACA appreciates the
sponsors and attendees who participated
and looks forward to seeing everyone at a
future meeting.
Kim Coghill is ACA International's vice
president of communications.
