Membership satisfaction survey reveals high marks for ACA.
By Kim Coghill

I

t's no secret that ACA International's
resources, programs and advocacy
positions are reflective of its first-class,
professional membership. To ensure that
the association is tapped into the fluid
needs of our growing membership, each
year we circulate an in-depth survey to
collect as much information as possible
about how we can continue to help
members succeed.
In June 2019, ACA's research
department emailed all members
requesting participation in the annual
2019 Membership Satisfaction Survey. We
appreciate the efforts of the members who
participated, and we view every response as
tremendously important to the success of
our association and overall membership.
Among the key takeaways, we learned
that 77% of members report relatively
high levels of overall satisfaction and 82%
agree that membership is valuable to their
organization. This is fantastic news, as is the
fact that 94%-an overwhelming majority-
indicated that they are likely or very likely
to renew their current ACA membership,
and 79% said they are likely or very likely
to recommend ACA membership to a
colleague or client.
We also learned that 65% of respondents
initially joined ACA to enhance their
professional image. Sixty-two percent joined
to access more in-depth, thoughtful industry

information, while 61% said they joined for
business service discounts. And, if you are
wondering why members continue to renew,
here are the top three reasons:
1. To access members-only content on
the ACA website (94%),
2. To remain current on industry trends
(94%), and
3. To access and receive industry
information (93%).
Other top reasons to renew included
access to compliance information, the
association's advocacy efforts, and education
and training opportunities.
One more item of interest: 46.88% (the
highest level) of respondents work for a
third-party debt collection organization
serving the consumer and commercial
markets. Other top responses were from
consumer-only third-party collectors,
creditors/first-party collectors or law firms.
With all this great information at
our fingertips, we thought it would be
appropriate to share updates on some
activities currently underway in reference to
the needs our members identified.

ADVOCACY
We intend to continue leading members
through the Consumer Financial Protection
Bureau's debt collection rulemaking
process and other bureau initiatives that
impact ACA members' ability to operate

and innovate. As Congress and the Federal
Communications Commission consider
ways of eliminating robocalls, ACA is
representing you by leading efforts to
ensure that illegal calls are differentiated
from legitimate business calls, and that
your calls are not blocked or mislabeled.

STATE UNITS
Legislative activity at the state level was near
an all-time high in 2019 and a similar level is
expected in 2020. ACA and its 36 state and
regional units tracked more than 640 bills
across the country this year that, if enacted,
would impact the accounts receivable
management industry. We are looking to
further increase the industry's presence in
the state public policy arena through new
grassroots training and outreach campaigns.

ACA SEARCHPOINT
In 2019, members viewed ACA SearchPoint
documents more than 41,446 times. We
are committed to our current practice of
constantly updating the approximately 230
documents in addition to expanding ACA
SearchPoint offerings to cover new and
relevant industry topics.

GUIDES
Because our members need timely
compliance guides that include the current
landscape of consumer protection laws and
