CA International offers multiple opportunities for you to earn professional
development designations that can help enhance your career. We spoke
with Amanda Bost, director of business development, collection services, for
NPC Inc., about the process of earning ACA's Credit and Collection Compliance
Professional (CCCP) designation and how compliance education helps her make
stronger connections with clients.
You jumped from the agency world to
the vendor world early last year. What
does a typical day look like for you as
the director of business development?

Normally I'm doing a lot of follow-ups from a
sales perspective, reaching out to prospects I've
met at shows and conferences. I'm also constantly
going through different ACA newsletters and
forums, trying to read up on what's happening in
the industry and looking for opportunities that
are a good fit for us as an organization. The ARM
industry is always evolving, and if you want to
stay relevant you need to understand what your
clients' wants and needs are; especially with the
laws changing.
One of the biggest challenges of my job is
trying to get our face out there in the industry.
NPC has been around for over 70 years, and 40
years has been in highly regulated communities.
Coming from a collection agency, I understand
their wants and needs, and also understand their
frustrations-especially dealing with collection
letters. I joined NPC so that I can bring my
perspective of the collection industry to a vendor
who is passionately committed to creating value
for its customers.

Why did you want to earn the
CCCP designation?
When I crossed over, the first thing I said was,
"If we're going to ask these agencies to switch to
our service, we want to help them be as compliant
as possible." That means staying up to date on
industry issues so if we spot something of concern
in clients' letters, we can ask questions or have
them check with their in-house counsel to ensure
they are compliant. We want to serve as a backup
for our clients. I think the work I put into earning

my CCCP designation will help me add value as a
salesperson for my clients. Now my goal is to get
my CCCO designation by the end of 2020.

What did you learn from the CCCP
process that's helped you do your
job better?
I draw on the information I learned almost
every day, especially when I'm meeting with new
prospects and we talk about their current letters.
It helps me ask targeted questions about their
letters, like: Do they have the correct language on
their backer? Why are they using this language?
How can we update the letter, yet continue to
stay compliant?
I think people often assume if their debt is
commercial that they don't need to worry about
any of the compliance issues that come up with
third-party agencies, but that's not always the case.
In certain states you need to follow consumer laws
on debt collection.
Having this compliance background helps
our clients feel comfortable that we understand
their needs and know what we're talking about.
The biggest challenge I saw when I crossed over
from an agency is that nobody wants to switch
letter vendors because it can be cumbersome.
That's where I come in. I'm able to talk about
my experience working in an agency and share
my knowledge. We look at ourselves as an
outsourcing partner.
I've attended ACA functions for years but it's a
whole new experience from the vendor side. I like
that ACA's classes aren't always taught by the same
people. Everyone brings something unique to
the table.
