ACA Members
Band Together in
Food Bank Project

S

taff members of Optio Solutions
in Petaluma, California, and its
affiliate, Crosscheck, reached
a milestone of volunteering with the
Redwood Empire Food Bank for 14
consecutive months. Recently, 10
employees participated in the food bank's
weekday Warehouse Support program.
Food bank representative Cassidy Jourdan
said the staff members helped package
4,722 pounds of fresh apples and oranges,
representing 5,666 meals for seniors in
need during that visit alone.
From May 2018 through June 2019,
company volunteers were responsible for
packing 2,274 grocery boxes, 7,161 pounds of
apples, 6,600 pounds of carrots, 7,161 pounds
of oranges, and 2,400 pounds of plums. Their
efforts represent over 800 hours of work and
approximately 76,549 meals for people in need.
On average, 16 employees from the companies
volunteer at the food bank each month.
CrossCheck Senior Vice President Charles
Dortch III launched the effort in May 2018
and volunteers to help pack the food items-
joined by his colleagues at CrossCheck and
Optio Solutions' CEO Chris Schumacher, an
ACA International member.
"It's great to see management and
employees coming together to support
our community," Schumacher, who often
conducts quality control on the contents of
grocery boxes before they are sealed and
palletized, said. "It's a fun time outside of
the office doing something that makes a
difference to others in need."
The Redwood Empire Food Bank is the
largest hunger-relief organization serving
north coastal California, from Sonoma
County to the Oregon border.
