attendees' many questions about how the rule
would apply to specific situations they often see
in their collection businesses.
Panelist John McNamara, assistant director
of consumer lending, reporting and collections
markets for the CFPB, had one consistent
response to these questions: put it in writing
and send it to the CFPB.
The comment period on the proposed rule
is open until Sept. 18, and he urged all accounts
receivable management industry participants to
hop over to the Federal eRulemaking Portal and
describe not only what debt collection scenarios
they believe the proposed rule doesn't account
for, but also how long they think it would take
their company to implement the changes called

INDUSTRY TOGETHER

ACA's 2019 Convention & Expo attracted
15 Jul 19
several big-name speakers. Carey Lohrenz,
the first female F-14 fighter pilot in the U.S.
Navy, helped kick off the convention with
her keynote talk on leadership. In 1994,
when Lohrenz was deployed to the USS
Abraham Lincoln, there were fewer than five
female aviators on a ship of 5,000 male crew
members. In a presentation sponsored by
LucentPay, Lohrenz dug into what she learned
though this experience and how she adapted
to an ever-changing environment.
Another of the convention's celebrity
speakers, best-selling author Will Bowen,
explained to the crowd how we can reframe our
attitude about complaints. He told attendees
Nicholas Mooney
that the

Women4Women reception to greet accounts
receivable management industry professionals
15 Jul 19
in a more intimate setting. The reception,
sponsored by Hudson Cook LLP, served as

an organizing event to encourage women
to network, share information and begin
discussions about creating a more formal group.
ACA Board of Directors member Anita
Manghisi, IFCCE, president of Independent
Recovery Resources Inc., is leading the
group, with the support of several ACA
staff members. Additional information
about Women4Women will be coming
soon; in the meantime, you can follow
#ACAWomen4Women on Twitter.
The following day, at the Young Professionals
happy hour, 50 ACA members mingled in the
lobby bar of the Hilton San Diego Bayfront,
getting to know each other and making new
connections over drinks and appetizers. This
was the inaugural in-person event kicking off
ACA's newly created Young Professionals group,
which will help young people (40 years old and
under) in the ARM industry connect, share
their experiences and foster ideas for the future
of the industry.
Going forward, ACA will provide
opportunities for these young professionals to
interact in multiple ways, including face-to-face
meetings at association events and a special
community online via The Hub. If you are
interested in joining the Young Professionals
group, please email Mary Thao at thao@
acainternational.org. You can also follow

In the market for a new service or product?
Our bustling expo hall was packed with
more than 75 companies showcasing the best
technology, products and services available to
help accounts receivable management agencies
run more efficiently. A new addition to the expo
hall this year was the Innovation Stage, which
featured quick, 20-minute presentations from
select exhibitors and sponsors.

Convention attendees had a chance to give
