To expand your second-degree
connections, join LinkedIn groups in your
industry, like the ACA International group,
and in the markets of your prospective
clients-maybe the Healthcare Industry
Professionals Group, if you are in healthcare.
Search for groups by keywords on LinkedIn,
and then click on the Groups tab to see your
options. Gan noted that the members of every
group you join end up in your second-degree
network, if they aren't already first-degree
connections. Once you're a part of the group,
participate by commenting on and liking posts.
When you've built up your first-degree
connections, you can export them. In
your profile, go to Network, Connections,
and then Manage Synched and Imported
Contacts (in the upper right corner of your
screen). You'll receive a link to a document
containing each person's name, company
and position. Due to the European Union's
2018 General Data Protection Legislation,
you will no longer get the email addresses
of your connections in this export. As a
workaround, Gan suggested taking your
exported list, going back to your Network

and looking up the email address in each
person's profile, which you can copy
and paste into the list. "For every 100
connections, it'll take you about half an
hour," he said.
Content creators on LinkedIn make
more connections than content readers.
Promote seminars you're hosting, trumpet
awards you've received, and share your
thoughts on industry trends not just on
your page, but in relevant LinkedIn groups.
"When people are browsing LinkedIn,
they're drawn to content that their
connections have shared or posted," said
Eric Hoppe, director of marketing for
Crowd Content Media Inc. "If you post an
article on LinkedIn, it sends a notification
to your connections and invites them
to read your article. This is extremely
powerful because it lets you familiarize
yourself with your connections who may
not know you that well yet, which makes
it easier to reach out to them when you
want to pitch your services. Additionally,
you can include links in your article to
other content you've created, calls to
action, lead magnets, etc. that can get
your connections to reach out to you."

When you post articles that could be
of interest to your target audience, add a
personal comment noting one thing you
found valuable or interesting about the
article.
"One of the best ways to boost
engagement on your updates is to
encourage comments by asking a question
at the end of it," Tudge said. "LinkedIn
will show your post to the connections of
those that commented, boosting reach and
engagement."
Not sure what to post? LinkedIn also
offers content suggestions for businesses
based on audience trends. The key is
to continue to post-and engage-on a
regular basis.
