CCS specifically, reviewing its business
practices and thriving company culture,
noting that it's a two-time winner of the
county's "Best Places to Work in Monterey
"A lot of the professors at the festival were
very surprised by the students' presentation,"
Meeks said. "They asked, 'How does a
company like ours in such a tough industry
get a Best Place to Work Award?' Well, it's
because we value our employees."
At the end of the presentation, the team
recommended a few ways CCS could improve
its business practices. Though Meeks said
many of the recommendations were things
the company was already in the process of
putting in place, like speech analytics, he still
appreciated their insight and was proud to
help contribute to their education.
"Being in a classroom setting is great, but
it's different when you're sitting there with a
CEO talking face-to-face about a business,"
he noted. "It requires a different level of

"My goal is to create a pipeline to attract
top talent to my business," he said, noting
that he is also working with the university
to develop a sales certification program,
which could help benefit his business down
the road as well.
While Meeks said he has no doubt
that the CSUMB students changed their
professors' perception of the collection
industry, he's also hoping to leverage the
experience to educate legislators as well.
"When I meet with our local legislators
I'll share with them that we're working
with the university to help students
develop skill sets and we're creating jobs
for them after graduation," Meeks said.
"Hopefully it will help shape their opinions
when they weigh in on new regulations for
